Pastors Garfield Miller and Gordon Lawton were in Egypt June 20-July 4, 2021. Originally, their mission should have been to Egypt and Uganda, however, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the trip was limited to Cairo, Egypt. They ministered to and with a small fledging SDB group of refugees from South Sudan, in providing training on SDB beliefs and in evangelism efforts. The missions team assisted in holding the group’s first baby dedication, communion, and baptism. Seven babies were dedicated and a similar number of persons were immersed. In addition, there was the completion of ordination for a Pastor, an Elder, and 2 Deacons.
The team to Egypt reports that the determination of SDBs in Egypt is to be admired. As refugees they are having to adjust to a new normal; strangers in a foreign environment, with a different language. They presently meet for worship on the 7th floor of a residential building, with no elevator, in the living room of an apartment. In this space, approximately 35 members gather each week, and about 20 children in a bedroom. Also, with little or no skills, finding work is difficult, when they do find work, wages are lower than they expect.
Our Brethren in Egypt are very resilient and passionate, they seek our assistance to make the best of their given situation, find a more appropriate place for worship, and minister to their community.
“I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective…” Philemon 1:6
