Calling New Board Members!

ree

The Seventh Day Baptist Missionary Society is prayerfully seeking 2–4 qualified candidates to serve on our Board of Managers. These roles are an important part of how we steward the ministry God has entrusted to us—helping to guide vision, support staff, and ensure that our resources are used effectively for global mission. If you or someone you know has a heart for missions and gifts in leadership or administration, this may be a meaningful way to serve.

Board members play a key role in shaping the direction and supporting the ongoing work of the Missionary Society. Members of the Board of Managers must be members in good standing of an SDB church that is part of the Conference of USA/Canada. They serve three-year terms and are asked to complete a continuing education requirement within the first year of service by taking either the Perspectives course or SDBU261 (previously completed courses will be accepted).

The board meets five times annually on Sundays via Zoom, making it possible for people to serve from different locations. One of these meetings may be held in person in the fall, for those able to attend. Board members are also strongly encouraged to participate in committees during their term, helping to carry out the work between meetings and offering their gifts in more focused areas.

For the March 2026–March 2029 term, we are especially looking for candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Accounting, particularly someone interested in serving as Assistant Treasurer

  • Human Resources (HR)

  • International business

  • Community development

Our most pressing need is for someone to serve as Assistant Treasurer, with the intention of training to become Treasurer within the first year of service. Because of the uniqueness of this role, the Treasurer may have up to three years to complete the continuing education requirement.

Candidates with other backgrounds who bring spiritual maturity, a commitment to SDB missions, and a willingness to learn are also welcome to be considered. We value a variety of perspectives and experiences, united by a shared desire to see the gospel advance globally.

If you or someone you know might be a good fit for this kind of service, please reach out to last year’s SDB Missions Nominations Committee Chair, Rev. Gordon Lawton, at gordon.p.lawton@gmail.com.

Recommendations must be sent by February 1, 2026.

We invite you to pray, think, and talk with others about who God might be calling to serve in this important way.

Reflection

Serving on a board may not seem as visible as preaching a sermon or going on a short-term trip, but it is a vital form of kingdom service. Thoughtful, prayerful governance helps create the stability and direction needed for mission work to flourish. Perhaps God is calling you—or someone you know—to come alongside the Missionary Society in this behind-the-scenes but deeply impactful way.

Prayer Point

Pray that God would clearly identify and call the right individuals to serve on the SDB Missionary Society’s Board of Managers in this upcoming term. Ask Him to provide gifted, humble leaders—especially for the Assistant Treasurer role—who will serve with wisdom, integrity, and a heart for global mission.

Reflection Question

As you think about the needs of the Missionary Society and the gifts God has placed in you and your community, who comes to mind as someone that might be called to serve in this kind of leadership—and what step could you take to encourage or recommend them?
